One of the highlights of the year for me in 2012 was opening for Rodriguez at the El Rey in Los Angeles.
I performed 07 Be Still from my Album with Brian Wilson A World Of Peace Must Come
Alan Boyd played the organ and Tracy Landecker helped me with the performance and my friend Jill Jarrett took a few photographs.
It was a very exciting night and everyone was there to see Rodriguez who’s film now has been nominated for an Academy Award.
The afternoon we had a rehearsal before the big event and I talked a lot with Rodriguez and his daughter Regan and some members of his band.
All sweet people and Rodriguez. When he was ready to leave and go back to his living Space to rest and prepare for the show he and his daughter told me the car was towed because they parked in the wrong zone. I offered a ride but they were waiting they called the company and they said they were OK.
He was very calm and not rattled at all. Very sweet good soul said he believed in kindness and helping people and doing good and he was extremely grateful for all that was happening . I offered again they said they would wait. Matt Sullivan one of the owners and head of Light In The Attic Records had a party the night before and Rodriguez came with his daughter and a friend. It was fun.
Here was a genuine authentic down to earth man that has not had an easy life but he was up beat.
I love Rodriguez I am fortunate Matt Picked me to open and do my poem Be Still which Brian Wilson played the organ on the original .
That night Alan Boyd played and he had me sing at the end the poem I wrote with Dennis Be Still which inspired and was inspired by the part in scripture where it says “BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD.”
I am ever grateful for this experience.
Like grace put me in the right place at the right time.
Peace
I wrote a song poem about being in the right place right time with Cal Gibson from UK Sherwood Forrest.
here it is:right place oct 5th 08

The reason I asked Stevie to write this blog is that the day after we watched the brilliant SugarMan film he mentioned that he had opened for him, We had not heard of Rodriguez until seeing the film point and then the very next day Stevie mentioned him, so I thought it was one of those serendipitous moments that should be recorded.
