Web Design Questions

What types of websites do you build?

I build all types of bespoke WordPress websites — from simple brochure sites for sole traders to full e-commerce shops, charity sites, membership sites, booking systems and portfolio sites. Every site is built around your specific business, not a template. I’ve worked with businesses ranging from sole traders in Enfield to clients all over the UK including Enfield Council, The Beach Boys and IPF 3D Printing.

Will I be able to update my website myself?

Yes — and this is one of the things I’m most proud of. Every website I build comes with free one-to-one training so you can update your own content, add blog posts, change images and keep things fresh without having to call me and pay every time.

You’ll also receive a personal training video to keep, so you can refer back to it whenever you need a reminder. As Joe Studman said: “24 hours later I had a new website and enough knowledge to control the text. I now update information at will.”

Will my website work on mobile phones and tablets?

Absolutely — every website I build is fully responsive, meaning it automatically adapts to look great on any screen size, from a large desktop monitor to the smallest smartphone. With over 60% of web browsing now happening on mobile, this isn’t optional — it’s essential. Google also ranks mobile-friendly sites higher, so it’s good for your SEO too.

Will my website be optimised for Google (SEO)?

Yes — all my websites are built with solid SEO foundations as standard. That means proper page titles and meta descriptions, correct heading structure, fast loading, mobile-friendliness, schema markup and a clean site structure. I also advise on content strategy so your site has the best possible chance of ranking for the terms your customers actually search for.

Do I need to provide the content for my website?

You know your business better than anyone, so ideally yes — but I can help you shape and write it. Many clients provide rough notes or bullet points and I help turn them into polished website copy. I can also advise on what content each page needs so you’re not starting from a blank page.

For images, I recommend using your own photography where possible as it’s much more authentic, but I can also source professional stock images if needed.

Can you redesign my existing website rather than start from scratch?

Absolutely — in fact a lot of my work is redesigning and refreshing existing sites. Whether your site looks dated, loads slowly, doesn’t work on mobile, or just isn’t converting visitors into enquiries, I can assess what needs doing and give you a clear plan and price. Sometimes a focused refresh is all you need; other times a full rebuild is better value in the long run. I’ll always tell you honestly which applies.

Section 2

Costs & Timescales

How much does a website cost?

Every website is bespoke so prices vary depending on what’s needed, but as a guide:

Type Starting from
Bespoke business website £1,295
E-commerce / online shop £1,795+
Website refresh / redesign Price on application

All prices include free one-to-one training and a personal training video. I’ll always give you a clear, fixed quote before any work starts — no hidden extras, ever. Call me for a chat and I’ll give you an honest estimate straight away.

How long does it take to build a website?

Most small business websites take 2–4 weeks from our first conversation to going live. E-commerce sites typically take 4–6 weeks. Larger or more complex projects take longer.

The biggest factor in the timeline is you! The faster you send me content, images and feedback, the faster your site goes live. I’ll always give you a clear schedule at the start of the project so you know what to expect at every stage.

Are there ongoing costs after the website is built?

Yes, but they’re very manageable. You’ll need to pay for hosting and your domain name annually — typically £100–£200 per year depending on your hosting choice. I can advise on the best option for your needs and budget.

I also offer optional support and maintenance plans if you’d like someone to keep your site updated, secure and backed up. These start from a small monthly retainer. Entirely optional — many clients manage their own sites perfectly well after training.

What are your payment terms?

I require a 50% deposit before work begins, with the balance due on completion. For larger projects I can sometimes arrange stage payments — just ask. I accept bank transfer. All prices are quoted inclusive of VAT.

AI Training Questions

What is AI training for small business?

I offer practical workshops and one-to-one sessions that teach small business owners how to use AI tools — primarily Claude and ChatGPT — in their everyday work. Sessions cover writing better content, saving time on admin, improving your Google rankings and using AI safely and legally. I use these tools myself every single day in my web design business, so everything I teach comes from real-world experience, not theory.

Do I need any technical knowledge to attend an AI workshop?

None at all. If you can send an email and use a smartphone, you can use AI tools. My workshops are specifically designed for non-technical business owners who want practical results from day one. I start from absolute scratch and don’t assume any prior knowledge.

How much do the AI workshops cost?

Workshop pricing:

Session Duration Price
AI Taster Session 2 hours £97 per person
Half-Day Workshop 4 hours £147 per person
Full-Day Workshop Full day £247 per person
1-to-1 Session 90 mins From £97

Group bookings for teams of 4–12 are also available at your premises. Call to discuss a bespoke rate.

Where are the workshops held?

In-person workshops are held in Enfield Town, close to Enfield Town station with parking nearby. I can also come to your premises for team sessions within 10 miles of Enfield at no extra travel charge. Online sessions via Zoom are available for anyone in the UK who can’t attend in person.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes — all workshop and online course completers receive a certificate of completion. I’m also working towards BCS (the Chartered Institute for IT) accreditation, which will make the qualification formally recognised. All attendees also receive a written summary of what was covered and a personal AI action plan for their business.

Is there an online AI course I can do in my own time?

Yes — a full self-paced online course is coming soon! It covers 5 modules and 25 video lessons including getting started with AI, writing and content, saving time on admin, AI for your website and SEO, and using AI safely. You’ll be able to study at your own pace and earn a certificate on completion. Register your interest via the contact page and I’ll let you know as soon as it launches.

Is AI going to take over my business or my job?

No — but it might help you do more with less, and it’s definitely giving an advantage to the business owners who learn how to use it. AI is a tool, just like a spreadsheet or a smartphone. The people who learn to use it well will save hours every week and produce better work. That’s what my training is all about — giving you that advantage.

Section 4

Working Together

Do you work with clients outside Enfield?

Absolutely. While I’m based in Enfield and love working with local businesses across North London, Barnet, Haringey and Hertfordshire, I work with clients all over the UK. Most of the web design process can be done remotely via email, phone and Zoom — and AI training can be delivered online to anyone in the country.

Will I deal directly with you throughout the project?

Always. You’ll deal directly with me, Lucy, from the first conversation to the day your site goes live and beyond. I don’t pass work to junior staff or outsource overseas. When you call or email, you get me. That personal, one-to-one service is what most of my clients say they value most.

How do we get started?

The best way is a quick phone call — I can usually give you a rough idea of timescales and budget in 10 minutes. There’s no obligation and no hard sell. If it’s a good fit, I’ll follow up with a written quote. If I don’t think I’m the right person for your project, I’ll tell you honestly and point you in the right direction.

Call me on 07795 170193 or fill in the contact form and I’ll get back to you the same day.

What happens if I need help after my website is live?

I don’t disappear after launch! I’m always available for ongoing support, whether that’s a quick question, adding a new page, fixing something that’s gone wrong, or a full site update further down the line. I offer flexible support options from ad-hoc hourly help to monthly maintenance packages. Essex Electrical Services have been with me for over 8 years — that kind of long-term relationship is what I aim for with every client.

My question isn’t answered here — what should I do?

Just call or drop me an email! I’m very approachable and happy to answer any question, however small. There are no silly questions when it comes to your business website or learning to use AI. Call 07795 170193 or email lucy@lucyswebdesigns.co.uk.

Still have a question?

Give me a call for a free, no-obligation chat. I’ll answer honestly and won’t try to sell you anything you don’t need.
