When you’re looking to build a website, one of the first questions that often comes up is: Should I use Wix or WordPress? It’s a common one I get asked by new clients, and while both have their place, if SEO (getting found on Google!) is important to you – then WordPress is definitely the way to go. Let me explain why…
1. WordPress gives you more control
One of the reasons I love building websites with WordPress is because it’s so user-friendly – and I make sure to teach all my clients how to use their site once it’s finished. That way, you’re not relying on anyone else to make simple changes, whether it’s updating text, adding new images, or writing a blog post.
Google loves to see fresh, updated content – so being able to tweak your site easily is really important for SEO. With WordPress, you have full control: you can update meta titles, add alt text to images, and make use of brilliant SEO tools like Yoast or RankMath – no techy skills required! It’s simple, flexible, and gives you the freedom to keep your site active and visible online.
2. Google loves WordPress
WordPress is clean, fast, and Google-friendly. You can create blog content (which Google loves for SEO), organise it with categories and tags, and structure your site properly – all things that help boost your visibility.
3. Speed and performance
Wix sites can often be slower, and speed matters when it comes to Google rankings. WordPress, especially when paired with a decent host (I always recommend A2 Hosting), loads quickly and reliably. Plus, you get control over what’s running on your site, so you’re not bogged down with features you don’t need.
4. Better long-term flexibility
Wix might seem easy at first, but it becomes limiting when your business grows. WordPress scales with you – whether you want to add a shop, a booking system, or a membership area, it can do it all – and still be SEO-friendly.
5. No ongoing monthly fees
Wix comes with ongoing monthly fees, and many of its best features are locked behind higher-tier plans. With WordPress, you pay once for your website, then just cover the hosting (which I help you sort). That’s it! No surprise charges.
Final thoughts
If you’re looking for a simple drag-and-drop site to get you going, Wix might work in the very short term. But if you’re serious about being found online, growing your brand, and having a site that works for you – WordPress is the better choice by a mile. I build all my websites in WordPress for this reason – it’s reliable, flexible, and fantastic for SEO.
