Can I change web designer without losing my website?
Yes. When the move is handled carefully, your pages, your content and your search visibility can all come with you. It works best when your site is built on WordPress, because WordPress can be moved intact. Sites built on closed platforms such as Wix or Squarespace cannot be moved as they are, so I rebuild them in WordPress instead. Either way, I explain your options in plain English and give you a fixed quote before anything changes.

I find out what you own
I help you track down your domain name, hosting and website logins. If you do not know where they are, that is fine. I will show you where to look and what to ask for.
I take a full backup
Before anything changes, I take a complete copy of your website, so nothing can be lost.
You choose the route
Keep and improve the existing site, move it to better hosting or rebuild it. You receive a fixed quote for whichever you choose.
You take the keys
Once everything is moved and tested, you receive your own logins and friendly 1-2-1 training. A care plan is optional.
What can and cannot be moved
Can move as they are
- WordPress websites, including pages, blog posts, images and most plugins.
- Your domain name, which stays yours wherever it is registered.
- Your text, photos and branding, whatever the site is built on.
Need rebuilding
- Websites built on Wix, Squarespace and similar closed builders. These are rebuilt in WordPress.
- Very old sites using themes or plugins that are no longer supported.
- Sites with serious security problems, which may need cleaning or rebuilding.
What I need from you
- Your website address.
- Anything you know about your domain and hosting, such as the company name or old invoices.
- A rough idea of what you want your website to do for your business.
- Nothing else. If you have no logins or paperwork at all, just call. Most people start there.
I never criticise other designers. Many people switch simply because their needs have changed or the relationship has run its course. My job is to get you what you need from where you are now.

Questions about switching web designer
Can I change web designer without losing my website?
Yes. When the move is handled carefully, your pages, content and search visibility can all come with you. WordPress websites can be moved intact. Who owns my website and domain name?
In most cases the person or business named as the registered owner of the domain owns it. That should be you. Website content is usually yours too, but it can depend on what was agreed with your previous designer, so it is worth checking your original agreement. This is not legal advice, but I can help you find out what you have.
What if my current designer will not give me my logins?
This happens sometimes. There are usually routes forward. A polite written request, your domain registrar and your hosting provider often resolve it. If they do not, I can rebuild your site from what is currently live, so you are never stuck.
Will my website go offline while you move it?
Usually there is little or no downtime. I build and test everything before switching the live address. I plan the switch for a quiet time of day. Email needs care, so I check how yours is set up before anything moves.
Will I lose my Google rankings if I switch?
A careful move protects them. I keep your page addresses the same wherever possible, redirect any that change and check everything afterwards. No one can promise rankings will never move, but the aim is that customers and search engines find everything where they expect it.
How much does it cost to switch web designer?
It depends on what you need, so I give you a fixed quote after our call. For reference, new websites start from £1,295, hosting and care plans from £25 a month and SEO audits from £250. Website training is £60 an hour, free with every build.
Do I have to move my hosting to you?
No, although moving often makes things simpler. My hosting covers fast UK servers, daily backups, updates and security from £25 a month. If you prefer to stay with your current host, I can usually work with it as long as I have suitable access.
